Facebook’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg talked about trends and predicted the growth of mobile video and virtual reality during the Mobile World Congress 2016, that is taking place in Barcelona, Spain. “Video in 2016 will probably be as big a shift in the way people share and consume as mobile was in 2012” Zuckerberg said. “Were at this turning point.” Other topics at the show included the tantalizing prospect of high-speed wireless data via 5G; virtual reality; screen-less mobile; and, ad blocking. During the congress different industry figures said that the mobile video revolution is the answer to the new technological platforms that allow downloading and viewing videos immediately. David Berkowitz, CMO of MRY said that “in the agency world, everything were doing has video at the center. That wasnt the case when I joined in 2013, but last year the distribution got so much better.” Facebook has been experiencing widely with new audiovisual formats, but the topic that most excited Zuckerberg is virtual reality and 5G. Facebooks Oculus headset will be launched at the end of this year. He explained that with the headsets “when a baby takes its first steps, now you can not only send the grandparents a video, but you can send them an immersive experience that makes them feel like they were actually in the room.”
