CulturIntel co-founder and CEO Lili Gil Valletta delivered at the 2018 Media for Social Impact Summit at the United Nations her speech Data for Good. “We live in an era in which research continues to confirm that younger generations and the coveted Millennial demographic are more purposeful and driven to support and buy brands that ‘matter’ because they stand for something greater than themselves,” she said. “This dynamic has led many companies to dial up their desire to be ‘responsible, sustainable and impactful.’ But while such efforts sound great in theory and projects are underway, they are hard to measure. Without mechanisms to capture data and monitor our progress in real time and with transparency, we will be blinded to our true ability to make progress.” Gil Valletta asserted that the artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities of CulturIntel and other big data platforms can be used for good: “Our method mines all the open-source digital discussions available in order to discover patterns of public opinion, people’s needs and turn it all into actionable insights.” The executive spoke of the need to rethink the way measures are to be developed and democratized for real impact. “Access to data should not be limited only to corporations that can afford it,” she said. “For all who make decisions, our open digital voice can be tremendously useful in basing those decisions on the true opinions and unmet needs of the people they seek to contact and help. We map needs across ethnicities, genders and geographies around the world, so we can develop actions, campaigns and solutions that are truly designed to serve the good of the people.”
