Leo Burnett Worlwide´s Like a girl by Always was awarded the 2015 Emmy for outstanding commercial in Los Angeles last Saturday, September 12th. The ad, directed by Lauren Greenfield and produced by Chelsea Pictures, beat Gatorade´s Made in New York by TBWA / Chiat / Day LA; Adobe’s Dream On for Photoshop’s 25th anniversary, as well as a series of ads for the Super Bowl, like Nissan´s With Dad -also by TBWA / Chiat / Day LA-, and Budweiser´s Lost Dog, among others. When it was posted in June 2014, the campaign went viral. The (slightly vindicative) spot denounces the disdainful use of the expression “like a girl”. During a casting, several men and women are asked to run, throw a ball or hit like a girl. They all do the actions in a ridiculous manner. The second part of the spot depicts girls in front of the camera, who show that running, throwing a ball or hitting like a girl doesn’t mean doing these things ridiculously. The spots conclusion is I run like a girl because I am a girl.
