Smart: Las mujeres de la industria debemos unirnos y apoyarnos
As President and CEO at Casanova//McCann, Ingrid Otero-Smart has become one of the leaders of the Hispanic market. Her advice for Hispanic agencies is to stop asking for permission to sit down at the table with the general market. “We already earned that” she said. “It is important to continue feeling proud of what we have achieved as an industry and continue teaching our clients the huge impact our programs have on their bottomline” she said. Her career began at McCann Puerto Rico and one day she ventured into getting to know the Latino market in California. “I had experiences in Mendoza Dillon and Anita Santiago Advertising, but the last eight years at Casanova//McCann have been the most productive and exciting” she expressed. “It has been a long, happy journey, full of challenges and with the support of lots of amazing people. Every day I thank God for the opportunity to do what I like.”Otero-Smart is convinced that women in the industry must come together and support each other in order to change situations of work inequality. “Recently, I read a study that said that men are hired for their potential and women are hired for their experience or what they have accomplished in the past. While those double standards don’t change, nothing will” she highlighted. The executive expressed that she feels inspired by the work of Joyce King Thomas, Creative at McCann who is behind the MasterCard Priceless campaign; and Lisa Nocella, Accounts Executive that led the effort that won many Lions for McCann last year: Field Trip to Mars by Lockheed Martin.
