Getty Images, the offical photography agency for visual creativity of the CLIOs is on a crusade to empower women through images, working to level the playing field and lift women up with the type of representation they deserve and that has the power to change the world.“Accurately depicting women in imagery is becoming increasingly vital as the fight for women’s rights and equality rages on. A simple photograph or video clip has much more power than we realize when it comes to constructing our understanding of reality.” highlighted Getty in a post on the CLIO Awards web page. The photography agency referred to several initiatives they are developing with this purpose.In 2104, Getty partnered with Sheryl Sandberg’s women’s empowerment NGO LeanIn.Org to create a collection of authentic images of women and the communities that support them. This collection has more than 14,000 images depicting diverse, powerful, modern, and independent women and girls.The agency is also working with Refinery29 on the collection No Apologies, committed to diversifying stock images of plus-size women and concepts of beauty. 67% of U.S. women wear a size 14 or above, yet only 5% of their published images regularly featured plus-size women.In March, Getty launched an initiative with MuslimGirl.com to create authentic, positive, and diverse images of Muslim girls and women at home, school, and in the workplace. The agency also partnered with Women’s Sports Trust, in the United Kingdom United Kingdom’s Women’s Sports Trust, seeking to show athletes really sweaty, showing their sports abilities.
