George Harris, Venezuelan social media influencer and comedian residing in Miami, spoke to PRODU during Hispanicize 2015 about how he managed to penetrate the Anglo market with humor in Spanish.”Comedians like me who pursue a career in Spanish in the US face several barriers we must overcome, if we aren´t in a TV channel spread nationwide. In my experience, the digital world has allowed me to penetrate other markets and make myself known in such a vast country with Latins from so many countries and find those interest topics that join us all together”, said Harris.Thanks to his peculiar humor and his influence in social media, Harris explains that he has managed to have a particular relation with the brands that sponsor him. “I try to humanize the brand and make them more familiar through my experiences with their products and not have my audience perceive it as a simple advertising space”, he pointed out.Currently the comedian is making his weekly show live in the city of Miami and it is broadcast online through his webpage elgeorgeharris.com, with a connection that registers between 10,000 and 15,000 viewers each thursday and is transmitted afterwards on TV Venezuela nationwide in the US and uploaded to Harris´ YouTube channel which to date has 20,000 subscribers.
