Ford apoya a las familias con Diabetes
During National Diabetes Awareness Month, Ford Motor Company joined forces with the non-profit Familias con Diabetes Foundation, founded by Jimmy and Mila Ferrer, to launch the website Familias con Diabetes, a valuable resource for Latino families plagued with the disease.To commemorate World Diabetes Day last Nov. 14, the Freedom Tower at Miami Dade College was illuminated with blue lights, since a blue circle is the universal symbol for diabetes.The infirmity affects the Hispanic community living in the United States more than it does any other ethnic group, and Latinos run 66 percent greater risk of being diagnosed with it than non-Hispanic white adults.Familias con Diabetes is the only educational website in Spanish about diabetes and is designed specifically for Latino families. Its mission is to educate, inform and train. The site includes news, statistics, nutrition and exercise advice to maintain a healthy weight, the resources available in the country and information related to the different types of diabetes.Ford and the Familias con Diabetes Foundation firmly believe that early detection of prediabetes is the best prevention. The alliance provides families with diabetes access to the latest information and news, plus the chance to meet people and learn from their experiences.Every year, diabetes kills more Americans than breast cancer and AIDS together.
