The social network launched Slideshow, a new advertising service that allows joining a series of stills and sounds to create a video. This is a “lightweight” video format that can easily be loaded even with fragile Internet connections, which is especially useful in emerging markets. The new application, initially only available for brands and companies to create contents, was developed thanks to the importance video has the challenge to create, to see, as explained by Nikila Srinivasan, product manager at Facebook. According to the social network, it will be possible to view the images on any mobile device and has already been a success, specially in emerging markets like Kenia or India, where brands like Coca-Cola or Netflix have generated twice as many people impacted by advertising contents. Advertisers can upload three to seven photos to create a slideshow up to 15 seconds long from the ads platform on Facebook. Brands and companies will be able to use their own images or choose from a photo library provided by the social network. The company assured that Slideshow is the answer to the needs of medium and small companies to make videos in an effective and inexpensive way, and for brands to “reach users with slower connections.” According to the figures presented by Facebook, most Internet connections around the world are made from second generation networks (2G), with slow and cumbersome speed, which is why this new possibility enables access to messages.
