Facebook announced the launch of a new application called Mentions aimed at actors, athletes, musicians and celebrities with accounts on Facebook, in order to facilitate management and interaction of their public accounts. The application is now available in the Apple App Store, only those accounts for U.S. users verified by Facebook may use Mentions. Its operation, at first glance, resembles Twitter, with updates of the most important issues on Facebook. It has also a simpler interface to share photos, videos and status updates, and it is designed for the celebrities (or their assistants) to generate more interaction with fans. Mentions is developed by Creative Labs, a division behind Facebook applications like Paper, a version of the social network with a polished interface, and Slingshot, the mobile instant messaging service with ephemeral content.”We are introducing Facebook Mentions, a new Creative Labs Facebook application, that makes it easy for celebrities to interact with their fans and others on the road,” the popular social network said.
