Diario Las Americas renews print, digital design

Diario Las Americas, Miami’s oldest Hispanic newspaper, is currently in a process of renovation, with a change of image and logotype plus improved production of its digital platform, with apps for mobile devices and its website.On Oct. 2 the publication launched its new design and format for print and digital editions. “All content will be developed on a first-class web platform” said Camilo Aguiar, the daily’s marketing director.Though the daily has had a specific target for 60 years, the purpose of the new design is to win over a new, younger audience with fresh language and a modern look. For his part, Aguiar told PRODU that “the idea now is to position the product beyond the limits of Miami-Dade County, which has always been our main market. Now we’re trying to cover more territory with our print edition…We want to position ourselves as a Spanish-language newspaper that is a leader in the digital field”.The new design has special sub-sections on the website with unique innovations and image displays. We have also created special sections like Life and Art, specializing in entertainment, and Money, which reports on subjects to do with the economy and finances in the city of Miami.The daily was founded in 1953 by Horacio Aguirre Baca and is a member of the Inter-American Press Association, or IAPA. In 2013 it was sold to Venezuelan investors; Manuel Aguiler is its executive director.
