Denny’s contribution will finance close to 10 scholarships for students from low-income families in Florida. The non-profit Step Up For Students manages around 60,000 scholarships per school year with the help of corporations like Denny’s. Since the program began in 2002, the business community has invested more than $1 billion, which has meant more than 271,000 scholarships for needy kids.“We are honored to welcome Denny’s as a partner in our mission to help low-income Florida students access schools that fit their unique learning needs” said Doug Tuthill, president of Step Up For Students. The announcement came soon after Denny’s launched its new scholarship program called Hungry for Education, which will finance scholarships for the students who present the best ideas about how Denny’s can help keep children from going hungry.“Beyond Denny’s commitment to ending childhood hunger, our company recognizes that a quality education is equally important in ensuring student success” said John Miller, president and CEO of Denny’s. “We are proud to create inspired opportunities for deserving students through our partnership Step Up For Students and our new scholarship program, Hungry for Education” he said.
