La diversidad es el reflejo de muchas perspectivas, visiones y emociones
Dannely Flores Kramer, Accounting Planning Director at Dieste, wrote an article in Provoque Weekly on the importance of the existence of inclusion and diversity in the workplace. “Being a minority woman and having worked in different and diverse environments in my 10 year career, I’ve learned that a diverse work environment this is inclusive of women, people of color, and LGBT+ individuals create a competitive edge in the market” she said. Flores explained that, although diversity and inclusion are not the same things, when they are experienced together, they yield the best results. Diversity applied in the workplace is often referred to as representation, while inclusion has to do with the acceptance of and truly embracing that representation, she expressed. She shared three lessons learned in diverse work environments. The first is that when diversity is fully embraced, it enhances the work experience since it creates a harmonious environment that not only benefits the people directly involved but also those who witness that interaction. “It becomes positively contagious”, she emphasized. This also makes you have a different perspective, to be able to see things globally and not just partially. And lastly, empathy. You tell consumers and the audience in general that “you, as a business or brand, are like them and understand them as human beings; real people with real feelings, emotions, and values, not only as a means of profit” she explained.According to Flores, diversity, and inclusion is not one thing or one story but the reflection of many perspectives, views, emotions, and one has to be fully aware in order to really embrace it.
