Coca-Cola recently announced the Spanish-Portuguese Marcos de Quinto as marketing director, replacing Joseph Tripodi after lagging sales. Tripodi, who had served as CMO for 7 years, will retire at the end of February 2015. The news comes after the results of the company based in Atlanta over the third quarter, according to The Wall Street Journal.Muhtar Kent, Chairman and delegate counselor of Coca-Cola, commended Tripodi for his leadership and dedication in a statement. “I want to thank Joe for his leadership, dedication and contribution to the business of Coca-Cola. During his term, Tripodi successfully led the sales and marketing organization of our company worldwide,” Kent said. Resident in Madrid, Quinto has worked for Coca-Cola in several positions as Regional Marketing Director since 1982. He is currently the president of the Business Unit of Coca-Cola Iberia and VP of the European division of the brand.About the decision, Kent said in a statement that de Quinto “will bring a global vision with strong operational experience to this key role,” citing his passion and commitment to brands, companies and system. The appointment of Marcos de Quinto as the new CMO of the multinational will be formalized next January, 1st, 2015, and in the coming months he will be working with Tripodi to ensure a smooth and organized transition.
