La chef Leticia Moreinos se une al programa Cuida tu diabetes, cuida tu corazón de Merck
Leticia Moreinos Schwartz, renowned chef and cookbook author, has joined with the Merck pharmaceutical company in the program I>Cuida tu diabetes, cuida tu corazón (Care for Your Diabetes, Care for Your Heart) to teach Hispanics suffering from type-2 diabetes how to make the necessary changes to their lifestyle. In doing so, she visited a number of Hispanic communities to show how they can change traditional dishes into healthy diets without losing flavor, in order to help those suffering the disease to have a lifestyle they enjoy but that suits their medical condition.Chef Leticia knows how important it is to control this illness, since her grandpa died from complications of type 2 diabetes. In the Hispanic community, we all take our families, our food, our culture and our community activities seriously, and diabetes affects all those aspects of our lives. Im excited about joining the Merck programI>Cuida tu diabetes, cuida tu corazón to offer Hispanics who suffer from type 2 diabetes, as well as their families and those in charge of caring for them, resources culturally acceptable for helping them learn how to have a healthier lifestyle she said. The hardest part of treating this illness is adapting the diet, above all when the food is an important cultural element of the community. Chef Leticia recently offered some cooking demonstrations at the Health Fair of the American Diabetes Association, or ADA, which is also committed to raising awareness about type 2 diabetes.
