Cannes Lions, the most important international festival of the creative communications industry, had a historical record this year with more of 37,000 nominations of 97 countries that will dispute 17 categories of awards: Branded Content and Entertainment (1,178 inscriptions), Creative Effectiveness (80), Cyber (3,660), Design (2,624), Direct Marketing (2,676), Cinema (2,838), Film Craft (2,073), Innovation (206), Media (3,127), Mobile (1,187), Outdoor (5,660), PR (1,850), Press (5,007), Product Design (194), Promotion and Activation (3,241), Radio (1,448) and Titanium & Integrated Lions (378).According to the Lions Festivals CEO, Philip Thomas, nominations have increased in approximately 5% regarding last year, in general. This years figures include the impressive growth of the Cyber Lions category, currently the third most important of the festival (39%). The PR Lions category also increased incredibly (43%).Other categories that also had a significant growth were: Branded Content and Entertainment (22%), Design (11%) and Mobile (12%). Curiously, traditional categories have reduced as a proof that the industry changes once again: Cinema (-9%), Press (-12%) and Radio (-7%).The ten main countries competing are USA (6,213), Brazil (3,321), the United Kingdom (2,757), Germany (2,376), France (1,838), Australia (1,543), Japan (1,146), Canada (995), India (976) and China (952).Works will be judged by 17 international jury of 327 top colleagues of 44 countries.
