Uno de los fanáticos del Sholing FC
Since 2011 Budweiser has been supporting grassroots football. This time they gave Sholing FC, a semi professional soccer team for the Sholing district of Southampton, England a surprise. The relevance of the team and the moment when they receive a £100,000 grant to help them upgrade their facilities was documented by Anomaly, under the direction of James Willis and the production of Bullion, the agency’s production company. “When poor facilities stop champions from promotion” reads on the beginning of the piece, where the background shows a not very green football field. Sholing FC was unable to receive promotion to more senior leagues not due to the quality of their play, but their facilities. “It should be more about the football, than about the grounds” says one of the players. The documentary shows that it’s not only about the game, but about community. “Clubs like Sholing are important for their communities because they are more than just a football club, we’re a family. I just wish everyone could experience that” says one man in the video. The end shows the moment when the team learns about Budweiser’s grant and celebrate with beer. The brewery was so please with the piece that they decided to release the spot as a 90-second broadcast version running during the Football Association (FA) Cup, in addition to the full-length online version.
