Alma DDB won a Bronze Cube in the Cinema Commercial category for the campaign Adios Cliches, Hola Mexico, at the 92nd Art Directors Club Awards Gala held April 4 at the New World Center in Miami Beach. Alma DDB was the only Hispanic agency to win a prize at the prestigious event this year. The concept of the campaign was developed to be presented at the movies to a non-Mexican audience, literally eliminating all the cultural stereotypes associated with Mexico. The commercials show a pair of deadly pistols, but in miniature, hanging from the moustache of a Mexican rebel. In a matter of seconds, the pistols wipe out a series of cultural cliches everything from mariachis and masked wrestlers to tequila, a Chihuahua and even Frida Kahlo. As a Mexican, I feel very proud of the Hola Mexico campaign, because it shows the depth and sophistication of Mexican culture to an entirely new audience said Luis Miguel Messianu, president and CCO of Alma. The Hola Mexico campaign took the most prizes at this years ADDYs with a total of 29.What is most gratifying to me about winning this prize is the fact that it was recognized as art by some of the world leaders in visual communications said Alma DDBs Isaac Mizrahi, senior VP, managing director.
