Here in Part 2 of PRODUS conversation with Alexandre Hohagen, VP of Facebook Latin America, the executive noted the next challenge for social media. Were just at the beginning of a very important revolution, because what is new about it is determining how we build the Internet around people. I dont believe there is any further doubt about the importance of digital media, but theres still a considerable lack of understanding about how to guarantee that people who are connecting with brands over a social network can buy a certain product, Hohagen said.Hohagen says Facebook has come through the initial phase of winning users trust with flying colors, given that the brands best adapted to social media have no doubt theyre a tremendous boon to their strategies. The goal were working so hard to achieve, above all in Latin America, is to show these brands that the engagement that occurs on a platform can help sell products that is the challenge and the significance of the second phase of social networks, being able to show and measure their actual results, he said. The executive says that Facebook has two big advantages: the ability to reach practically everyone, and at the same time the possibility of being able to segment them in a very specific way.The marketing capability, the creativity of Latinos, the Hispanic culture of being sociable, and the need to connect with other people put them all together and youve got a scenario of vital importance for the existence of Facebook, he said.
