Albert Uría, director de Garage Films
Spanish Director at Garage Films, Albert Uría has received multiple awards for his short film Any Day Now. He recently received the award for the Best Short Comedy in the Brooklyn Film Festival in New York, and a nomination for Best Actor. The film has been chosen to participate in 50 international festivals, has won four awards and one nomination. The Director feels that the film owes its success to the different and fun way it looks at death in the face. “It’s like a punch about a truth we don’t want to see: death, but told with humor to propose there is something we can improve, life. There is nothing like laughing when facing the impossibility of accepting topics we have a hard time living with” he said. For Uría, recognition has different levels of importance. “They give you visibility as a Director in the markets, they defend you as professional when dealing with producers and investors of possible projects. It is a nice way to express gratitude to collaborators and there are awards that I feel are more exciting or romantic, such as a audience award. Delighting the audience gives a purpose to what we do. It seems like the message goes through and that is powerful” he explained. To close 2016, Uría hopes to be able to continue “enjoying life, which, as the short film, is short but can be sweet if we laugh a little at everything we can.” He is also making the feature film Martians that says “family is who we want to be with.”
