AHAA: Suspender el DACA es un mal negocio

The Association of Hispanci Advertising Agencies (AHAA) expressed being appalled by the suspension of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), as per order of the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump. “For a President that has promised to be about growing our economy, the reversal of DACA is just bad business” said AHAA in a statement.AHAA explained that all DACA recipients grew up in America, registered with the government, submitted to extensive background checks, and are diligently giving back to our communities and paying income taxes. They added that more than 97% of these “dreamers” are studying or working, 5% are business owners, 65% have bought a vehicle, and 16% have purchased their first home.“These ‘Dreamers’ are vital to the future of our companies and our economy. With them, we grow and create jobs and we increase our consumer base for all types of goods and services. They are part of why we will continue to have a global competitive advantage” highlights the statement. AHAA gave several statistical examples that corroborate this statement. A study conducted by the Center for American Progress estimates that the loss of all DACA workers would reduce U.S. GDP by US$433 billion over the next 10 years. Furthermore, according to Mark Zandi, Moody’s Chief Economist, Trump’s decision to repeal DACA will reduce the labor force by 0.5% in the five years following implementation. In addition, our economy would lose $24.6 billion in Social Security and Medicare tax contributions.
