According to the director Alberto Ferreras, who recently directed the new season of the series Habla for HBO -that started in 2003- these months have been a good moment to write, read, evaluate, develop, rehearse, pre-produce, budget, and post-produce. “But above all, I think it is a great moment to think. We can finally see and read things with attention. Years have gone by in which the acceleration of the world of entertainment has not allowed us to stop to think, feel, and reflect on the stories we tell”.
Consider that it is important to understand that entertainment must react to this experience, not only at a production level but at a content level. “What do we want to tell a world that is going through this crisis?” How does our message help build a better world?” he expressed.
He commented that, regarding production, he would dare to make a big shooting with actors, extras, and the entire crew. “The idea that someone could get sick while working for me terrifies me. I am lucky because I have a great deal of experience in documentaries and working with skeleton crews,” he detailed. An example he mentioned is his short film series The Lessons, which was shot with a team of two people. “One of these shorts was acquired by HBO in 2019 (Lesson #7 by Alberto Ferreras), which taught me that if you simplify production, you have to redouble efforts in the acting and script. We can tell deep and memorable stories with few resources —and a reduced crew— when the script and acting are extraordinary. This is the moment to prove it,” he ended.
