WAPA TV: Local production is on the rise

Jimmy Arteaga, president of Programming, Promotions and Production at WAPA TV in Puerto Rico

In WAPA TV they think new technologies and the consumption habits that these involve have changed the vision of open TV channels. “Local production is on the rise on open TV channels. It exists as a way to distance themselves from canned products, because when these finally arrive in Latin America, they have been exhibited on so many platforms that the products seem old, even if they are less than a year old,” expressed Jimmy Arteaga, president of Programming, Promotions and Production at WAPA TV in Puerto Rico.

Arteaga thinks the problem with this phenomenon is that it might not be as cost-effective due to the production costs of certain formats. “However, the market is interesting, there is a different proposal that takes providers into account and has a better understanding of the new platforms, that seeks to maximize the product towards them. The problem, I think, is that maybe not all markets are prepared.”

WAPA TV is growing, stated Arteaga, who also added that all the group´s channels are doing well, they are in an expansion process. “I think that it is a good moment, despite the difficulties in the market in the region, due to situations we all know well.”
