Gilberto Santa Rosa, Puerto Rico’s very own Gentleman of Salsa, will perform during the Miss Universe Puerto Rico Pageant
WAPA Televisión has secured exclusive rights to air the 2017 Miss Universe Puerto Rico Pageant, which will simulcast live in the U.S. on WAPA América, WAPA TV’s US cable network arm, on Thursday, May 4, at 8pm ET/5pm PT.
Thirty-six contestants will compete for the 2017 Miss Universe Puerto Rico title and the chance to represent their country in the 66th edition of Miss Universe, which will take place at San Juan’s renowned Centro de Bellas Artes de Santurce. With five previous Miss Universe crowns, Puerto Rico has produced the third-largest number of Miss Universe winners of any country in the world.
Thursday’s event will be hosted by WAPA’s Viva la Tarde host Jaime Mayol, and will include musical performances from international megastars, among them one of the world’s most celebrated Latin artists and Puerto Rico’s very own Gentleman of Salsa, Gilberto Santa Rosa, as well as award-winning producer, singer and songwriter Tommy Torres.
“We pride ourselves in bringing world-class events to our viewers in Puerto Rico and in the U.S. and are happy to air the prestigious Miss Universe Puerto Rico pageant live on WAPA and WAPA América. This is a huge television event and we are honored to be a part of this special night,” said Alan J. Sokol, president of Hemisphere Media Group, Inc., WAPA’s parent company.
