Viacom International Media Networks Americas announced the arrival to Latin America of the new SVOD Paramount+ streaming service. Starting April 30 it will be available in Brazil through NET and as of June, it will expand throughout the entire region with Claro Video, starting with Mexico. Also, starting Jun it will be on iOS and Android. After, it will continue through other pay TV providers, the Internet, and mobile.
Ezequiel Fonseca, SVP Emerging Businesses at VIMN, emphasized that Paramount+ will start in the region with two exclusive strong launches: the new seasons of The Handmaid’s Tale and Yellowstone. The service will additionally have 150 films, international series and 2 thousand episodes of third-party programs and from MTV, Comedy Central, Paramount Channel, and Nickelodeon.
The service will have a monthly cost of US$4.5.
“The Viacom strategy is a grouping of their premium content and we are going to continue being the main partners of pay-TV operators,” assured Fonseca. “This business has to have a great deal of content support and Viacom produces more than 80% of the content it distributes. We have 12 studios in Latin America and VIS has expanded our production capability. The content of Paramount+ is not going to overlap that of our pay TV or Telefe channels because we have an exposure that favors consumers” he added.
He also expressed that they estimate that the subscription market in the region will grow more than 24% in the next few years.
