Univision informed of the passing of Nelson Ruiz Pérez, VP and executive producer in Entertainment. “Nelson fought bravely against cancer for more than three years, yet through it all, his faith, family and friends were his North Star and served as inspiration in his productions”.

The statement added, “if you have worked with Nelson, then you know first-hand how committed he was to his craft. He often proclaimed that producing was his life and we were blessed to witness his passion and the love he poured into every production. He transformed reality programming for Hispanic American audiences, as producer of some of the most popular unscripted series to ever air on Spanish-language television in US. His award-winning credits include NBL, including the most recent reimagined season that focused on empowering women, as well as our popular dancing competitions MQB and MQB All Stars. He also led the production teams for many of our most important specials including El Grito de Mexico, Virgen de La Guadalupe, Dia de las Madres, Teleton, and our New Year’s Eve countdown.”

Ruiz started his career in Puerto Rico, at Teleonce which later became Univision Puerto Rico where he was the general producer of Anda Pal Cara, a nightly variety program, and of Objetivo Fama, the most successful musical competition in the history of Puerto Rico.

“Without a doubt, Nelson leaves an indelible legacy of excellence and creativity in our industry and at our Company. He will forever be part of the Univision family and we will miss him. His legacy will be the countless lives he has touched. Nelson ERES GRANDE.”
