Univision Communications Inc. and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) hosted on Friday, February 23 a live link with astronauts from the International Space Station (ISS) at Univision Los Angeles, located in the Westchester neighborhood of the city.
Univision Los Angeles, which was chosen from several television stations across the country to host the live link, invited thirty-five students in-studio from Para los Niños (PLN) Charter Middle School to chat live with astronaut Joe Acaba, a California native and former school teacher based at ISS.
“We are proud to partner with NASA to bring this opportunity to the students at PLN,” said Luis Patino, president & general manager of Univision Los Angeles. “We advocate and empower young people in our community to dream big; today, we hope they left thinking that quite literally, the sky’s the limit. We will continue to work to give our next generation of leaders the tools, resources and experiences they need to succeed.”
Today’s live link builds on NASA’s A Year of Education on Station theme. Para los Niños Charter Middle School located in downtown Los Angeles serves some of the city’s neediest children and families and is home to one of six Univision Media Centers aimed at providing access to tools and technology for Latino students to pursue careers in the media industry in the United States.
The event was transmitted online via Univision 34’s website and Facebook page. A television special recapping the event will air on Univision 34 KMEX Saturday, March 3, 2018.
