Ólek Loewenstein, VP of Planning of Univision Deportes

Ólek Loewenstein, VP of Planning of Univision Deportes, gave PRODU a tour of the facilities at the International Broadcast Centre in Rio de Janeiro, one of the largest in the complex, featuring multiplatform coverage and 3D graphics that pop from the studio floor. With over 100 people including production staff, talent and third-party support, Univisión “spared no expense” on these facilities in Rio de Janeiro. This is the first time Univision arrives at a World Cup with a 24-hour dedicated sports channel and the new multi-platform UTDN, in addition to providing the usual original entertainment and news content for Univisión and UniMás.The 360º set, with an area of almost 1,300 square feet, was built in Colombia with a modular structure that allowed it to fit in the containers where it was transported to the IBC in Rio. It will later be broken down again and transported to Miami to be integrated into the studios. In regards to this Multi-platform World Cup, as this tournament has been labeled, Ólek said the company faced this challenge as a single production project for several platforms. He emphasized the second screens were working, noting that one of the first matches of the Mexico team was watched by 650 thousand people on their mobile devices using the app created for this purpose. “Digital changed the way sports are consumed in broadcast TV,” he said.
