Raquenel Portillo de En boca cerrada

Uforia, TelevisaUnivision’s audio platform, and Pitaya Entertainment, the Latino podcasting company, launched the first season of the podcast, En Boca Cerrada, in which Raquenel Portillo, the singer, and actress better known as “Mary Boquitas”, for the first time talks about her experience as one of the three protagonists of the case of Gloria Trevi and Sergio Andrade, one of the most controversial scandals in the entertainment industry.

“We are very happy with the launch of En Boca Cerrada. For Uforia Podcast, it is one of our original production bets for 2023. This podcast offers highly relevant content for the Hispanic community in a format that grows year after year,” said Hernán García, director of Podcast Development, Uforia.

“A story as complex and important as Raquenel deserves to be told in a format that allows us to go into all the different aspects of what she lived through in great detail. A podcast is an ideal channel to achieve this and we are very grateful to Raquenel for trusting Pitaya to develop this project. In addition to giving Raquenel a platform to talk about her experience in one of the most controversial scandals in the world of entertainment, we hope that this series shows the power that podcasts in Spanish have to offer high-impact stories,” said Jordi Oliveres, Co-founder and General Manager of Pitaya Entertainment.

Diana Mejía-Jones, Co-founder and partner of Pitaya and who serves as executive producer of the podcast, highlighted that it was a very emotional project for everyone. “We would never have imagined the abuse and suffering that the victims of Sergio Andrade experienced and the way in which the media judged these young women. Harvey Weinstein and Art Kelly are nothing compared with the kind of monster that Andrade was, regarding his psychological abuse and torturing of so many innocent girls,” she said. Mejía-Jones agreed to join the project thanks to Raquenel and worked on development with the team.

En Boca Cerrada encompasses two seasons of 10 episodes each. María García, an investigative journalist, works with Raquenel to tell and analyze her story. In addition, Ella García helps interview special guests from Raquenel’s past, giving a different look at her story.

The project has been in the making for almost a year and Portillo chose the podcast as a vehicle to tell her story because of its intimate and accessible nature, “where there are no limitations and no edition.” The podcast will also offer a helpline for people who are going through similar situations.

She also reported that a book about her experience will come later and there are offers to make a bioseries or a documentary. But for now, she is focused on the podcast.
