Turner LatAm: TV everywhere is essential to complement our pay TV business in the region

The TV Everywhere business in Latin America is helping to grow the pay TV business, according to Josh Weinrobe, ‎vice president, Digital Development at Turner Latin America, during his presentation in the Kaltura Connect Virtual Summit.”From our point of view, TV Everywhere is essential to complement our pay TV business in Latin America”, he assured.The executive presented the OTT scenario in the region: there are approximately 8 million users who enjoy some online video service, most of which access these platforms from laptops (33%) and smartphones (19%); and 90% of broadband under the age of 30 already watch some type of OTT content.And, though pay TV continues to be good business –growth perspectives are 9% annually–, Turner closely follows the trends of the so called cord-cutters and cord-nevers, in Latin America 10% of users who cut the pay TV service, and 7% who never subscribed to pay TV, respectively.As a multiplatform leader, with TNT GO, Space GO and Cartoon Network GO, nowadays Turner is emphasizing it mobile offer. “In 2015 we launched our first TVE product with Kaltura, TNT GO, for iOS and Android mobile, and our plan is to launch other with the same platform this year”, he disclosed.The launch that took place in February for the Oscar Awards achieved successful results: 49% users on desktop against 51% on mobile.
