According to Mara Vargas, a Mexican writer based in Los Angeles, it will not be easy to know where the audience´s preferences will go after the pandemic is over. “I have spoken with producers and colleagues, but each one has a different answer. From executives who think they will want epic series or people who escape, up to those who say they are going to want comedies. It will be interesting to know which are going to be the most-watched series in two years” said Vargas, scriptwriter in La Casa de las Flores.
Vargas states that there is a great deal of pressure to create, but we must consider that the moment is of great emotional demand.”We must take care of our mental health”.
She commented that for writers the dilemma will be if they should include the pandemic in upcoming plots or not. “I wonder if the topic will be mentioned in the next season of the series we are now watching. Or if they are going to live in a parallel universe in which this never happened. Whatever we write that is a period there is going to be easier to think about and create because we don´t have to make this type of decisions” he commented.
By the time the quarantine was ordered, the second season of Los Espookys, series in which Mara Vargas took part, was about to start being shot in Chile and planned to be launched in June, but the production was suspended. She is currently working for a series from a big production series in Los Angeles that she is very excited about.
