Brazil is one of the countries with more cases of coronavirus. The Kitchen’s studio in that country, one of the company’s key markets, had to close. “We depend on what the government and also the union demand,” commented Alexis Cárdenas, VP International Sales of the dubbing company.

“What we did at the beginning of the pandemic was to anticipate that the situation in Latin America would get worse and the Miami team put into operation a contingency plan to train/approve native Brazilian dubbing actors with home studios,” adds Cárdenas.

In Brazil, they have a pool of 30 experienced dubbing actors capable of dubbing from their homes. In this country, they are finishing the active projects (pre-pandemic) that fulfill certain requisites and all the new projects are being handled in Miami.

Cárdenas believes that the pandemic will leave a visible transformation at several levels. “Who was thinking about a pandemic when designing a contingency plan, requisite of the content security homologation in organizations such as MPAA (Motion Pictures Association of America). I also think that many more traditional companies are realizing the economic efficiencies that result from having employees in remote locations and new distribution models will open, such as cinema films screened on buildings, drive-ins, paratheatrical OTT, virtual dubbing studios, many little things that will bring fresh air to our industry”.
