As part of the agreement between ViX and the production house The Inmigrant, the TelevisaUnivision streaming platform premiered on September 29 the suspense series Ella Camina Sola, starring Paulina Dávila, Alicia Jaziz, and Christopher von Uckermann and written by Adriana Pelusi, who together with the producer Camila Jiménez spoke with PRODU.
“It was good to find in ViX a partner who saw this double facet of the series and let us work so well and freely. With all the content out there right now, the product must stand out and keep the audience’s attention in each episode, and the writing team worked a lot to do that, and the best way is in a thriller. This production is designed for the Mexican public,” Jiménez highlighted.
For Pelusi, the openness provided by platforms such as ViX allows them to address topics, such as harassment, which was previously difficult to do in productions made for TV. “The idea with this series was to talk about abuse and harassment from a police perspective, which I saw was being discussed in different stories told by women on the Internet, and a topic addressed by the movement MeToo. I wanted to cover this topic with a more human and character-based approach. It was a work that Camila and I did together to find the right angle, and the openness shown on the platforms for this type of issue is because the viewers are asking for different things and more related to their reality. Although it is a realistic series, it has elements of mystery and entertainment.”
She explained that it is a mystery thriller with elements of melodrama. “With something more personal and the reason for the character’s existence. There are no police, investigators, or journalists after the truth, but rather human beings trying to discover what is happening to the people close to them. The success of other productions, such as Who Killed Sara? or Control Z has propelled people to want to see more of this genre.”
Jiménez added that they recorded in Mexico City for 12 weeks, with the support of three directors: Inés Barrionuevo, Analeine Cal y Mayor, and Cris Gris, in addition to Adriana Pelusi, who played a double role, writer, head writer, creator, and also showrunner. “All of them aimed to achieve a very clear proposal that strengthens elements of a thriller and gets the atmosphere needed, which was then executed by our photographers to give it the uniform look.”
Finally, they said that since it is a single season, this series fulfills its goal in ten episodes.
Ella Camina Sola explores the story of Carla, a young high school teacher, who is given the task of investigating accusations of sexual harassment against her colleague and friend, Ricardo.
