The FCC (Federal Communications Commission of the USA) has voted to approve the merger of media, content, and audiovisual production assets between the Mexican group Televisa and the US network Univision. The body made the announcement this Monday 24.

Now both companies have carte blanche to the creation of the “world’s leading media and content company in Spanish”, as both parties called it.

As announced in April 2020, Univisión would be paying Televisa US$4.8 billion for the operation, including also US$3 billion in cash, and the remaining in shares and other commercial considerations. After this merger operation, Televisa would continue to have a 45% of the ownership of the group, as well as of Izzi Telecom, Sky, and other businesses.

Part of the financing for this operation, about US$1 billion specifically, will come from SoftBank with the support of Google and The Raine Group. Likewise, JP Morgan would be contributing US$2.1 billion in debt commitments.
