Televisa: The company must produce about 15 novelas per year to supply the different markets

Maribel Ramos-Weiner| March 11, 2014

According to Salvador Mejía, Producer and general director of Telenovelas of Televisa, the company’s approach and the audience’s preference for classic telenovelas are reflected in the success of stories such as Lo Que La Vida Me Robó.“Surprisingly, In Mexico we’re starting to welcome back classic themes such as Lo Que La Vida Me Robó, a remake of Bodas De Odio. This demonstrates Mexicans prefer classic telenovelas, and that is why we continue to produce them and look for formats that align with these needs,” he said.Mejía pointed out Televisa must produce about 15 novelas per year because, “we must supply five different timeslots in Mexican TV, as well as other markets such as the U.S., Latin America, Asia, Europe and everywhere we reach. We need to have a stock large enough to meet the demand.”Lastly, Mejía said he was pleased for the support offered by the multimedia and transmedia platforms, because this has led to the creation of secondary stories, “as well as catering to a different kind of audience that is not used to watching telenovelas and would like to see other aspects of these.”
