Grupo Televisa launched on Thursday its new premium content division, Televisa Alternative Originals (TAO), with a team dedicated to creating high-quality fiction content for SVOD and cable platforms on a global scale. The new division will have a presence in Los Angeles and Mexico City.

TAO already signed a distribution commitment with Amazon Prime Video for several series. The global SVOD rights will belong to Amazon Prime Video, who will distribute the series to their clients worldwide, in more than en más de 200 countries and territories.

Televisa will have the rights to its open television and pay television platforms in Mexico and in the US through Univision’s platforms, delivering these high-quality contents to a broader audience.

Televisa highlighted that this visión of creating premium series through TAO is a commitment to development and production of original content, together with their focus on taking fascinating stories with unique voices to global audiences.

The agreement between TAO and Amazon positions the Company as a key player in the region in this segment that is rapidly growing, collaborating with a platform that gives contents a very broad scope.

Amazon positioned this partnership with TAO as an important move in the distribution of high-quality contents in Spanish for its Amazon Prime Video subscribers in Mexico, Latin America, and the rest of the world, and a further step in their effort to broaden their offer of local original series on the platform.

In the upcoming weeks, we will disclose more information on TAO and details regarding future series.
