José Cancela, president and general manager, Telemundo Puerto Rico
José Cancela has been at the forefront of the Telemundo station in Puerto Rico (WKAQ) for three years and during that time he has collaborated with leveraging the station’s local production.”Telemundo Puerto Rico had abandoned local production. Now with the impulse of Comcast/NBCUniversal we have increased to more than 30 hours a week of local production between news and entertainment” said Cancela, president and general manager of the station, to PRODU.With the support of Comcast/NBCUniversal several entertainment spaces were introduced, among them, Raymond y Sus Amigos, a two-hour comedy program (Tuesday from 8 to 10pm), produced by Tony Mojena; a late-night show called Alexandra de Noche (Monday to Friday at 11pm), conducted by Alexandra Fuentes and produced by Marlene Cartagena; Día a Día, also produced by Tony Mojena, which went from an hour and a half at 11:30am to two hours in the afternoon from 2 to 4pm; and Dando Candela (Monday to Friday at 6pm), produced by Soraida Sánchez. In news, the boost has been equally important in the last few years. The most recent thing was the launch of the research unit to support consumers called Telemundo Responde. Likewise, weekend news have been resumed with two and a half hours on Saturdays and Sundays at 5pm and 10pm.
