Telemundo Deportes’ coverage of FIFA Confederations Cup Russia 2017 reached 5.3 million Total Viewers through the first three matches

Telemundo Deportes’ exclusive and unprecedented multi-platform coverage of the FIFA Confederations Cup Russia 2017 kicked off this past weekend reaching 5.3 million Total Viewers through the first three matches – Russia vs. New Zealand, Portugal vs. Mexico, and Cameroon vs. Chile, according to Nielsen.

Telemundo’s coverage of the opening weekend averaged 1.3 million Total viewers and 771,000 adults 18-49, outperforming FOX Sports networks by 4X among Total Viewers (+335%) and among Adults 18-49 (+329%.) The matches also surpassed Univision’s coverage of the FIFA Confederations Cup South Africa 2009 opening weekend, which aired in similar time periods, by 188% among Total Viewers and 155% among Adults 18-49.

Mexico’s 2-2 tie against Portugal on Sunday, June 18 at 11am ET reached 4 million Total Viewers and scored 2.3 million streaming minutes, ranking as Telemundo most streamed match ever. The match window averaged 2.4 million Total Viewers and 1.4 million Adults 18-49, outperforming FOX Sports networks by 394% and 379%, respectively.

Through the first three matches, Telemundo Deportes’ digital platforms tapped a total of 4.6 million streaming minutes and generated close to half a million social interactions. Portugal vs. Mexico was the biggest driver, delivering more social interactions and unique social authors than FOX Sports.

At the local level, the Portugal vs. Mexico match was rated the #1 program in the time period among adults aged 18-49 in Atlanta, Orlando, Sacramento, New York, Dallas, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, Phoenix and San Francisco, regardless of language.

Telemundo Deportes’ coverage of the FIFA Confederations Cup Russia 2017 continues Wednesday, June 21 with Mexico vs. New Zealand live at 1:30pm. ET on Telemundo and via live stream on TelemundoDeportes.com and the Telemundo Deportes En Vivo App. Andrés Cantor will call the action alongside the analysis of Carlos Hermosillo and Manuel Sol.

Wednesday’s coverage begins at 10am ET with Hoy en la Copa Confederaciones hosted by Ana Jurka, Miguel Gurwitz and Carlos Hermosillo recapping the tournament’s results and offering a preview on the games to come.

Russia will challenge Portugal at 10:30am ET in the first match of the day, live on Telemundo and via live stream on TelemundoDeportes.com and the Telemundo Deportes En Vivo app. Sammy Sadovnik calling the match with the analysis of Copán Álvarez.
