“When Comcast acquired NBCUniversal, Telemundo was in a second place, very distant from Univision, that was in first and was one of the businesses we least thought of when we made the acquisition of NBCU, that is comprised by 25 properties. Today, seven years later, Telemundo just completed the year as the number one Hispanic network in the primetime schedule,” highlighted Steve Burke, CEO of NBCUniversal during his participation in the grand opening of Telemundo Center.
He commented that he grew up in Los Angeles and that for many years, the number one Hispanic TV station was Univision, “now, the number one station in Los Angeles is Telemundo.” He added that every Telemundo segment is much stronger than it was seven years ago: the network, the stations, news, and sports with the World Cup.
“It is all coming together to create a great moment. We didn´t know this eleven years ago when we assured the rights to the World Cup. Now, we are a couple of months away from being the hosts of the World Cup and we will be able to do it from this new home. It is a convergence of events we would have never imagined,” emphasized Burke.
