Spanish-language streaming service Pongalo premieres its first original film on the female-focused, US$5.99-per-month subscription service.
Girl Flu stars Katee Sackhoff (Battlestar Gallactica, Longmire), Jeremy Sisto (Law and Order, Six Feet Under), Jade Pettyjohn (School of Rock-TV, McKenna) and Judy Reyes (Scrubs, Devious Maids), and tells the story of a young girl (Pettyjohn) who gets her first period, something which triggers a crisis for her mother (Sackhoff).
The film was created in conjunction with producer David K. Wilson and his Free Chicken Films, with Pongalo Founder and CEO, Rich Hull (She’s All That) and Paul Schiff (Maid in Manhattan) executive producing.
The movie will be offered to Pongalo’s largely-bilingual audience in both Spanish and English via the Pongalo app and all of its distribution platforms, including Amazon Channels.
Pongalo’s Hull, who has produced and financed more than 25 films and television shows, said, “This film is indicative of our commitment to offer Pongalo’s Latina subscribers worldwide the largest selection of telenovelas and curated Hollywood content, programmed right alongside the freshest female voices working in entertainment today.”
In addition to Girl Flu, Pongalo will premiere over 250 hours of new telenovelas and series in its Premieres & Exclusives category this year, including Caracol’s Los Hombres También Lloran and Rafael Orozco El Ídolo, and RCTV’s Qué Buena Se Puso Lola and Amor Infiel.
