Sony Pictures Television is offering for the Latin American market María Magdalena, which is a co-production with Dopamine, and La Guzmán, that runs on Imagen TV of Mexico, said Álex Marín, EVP of Distribution and Channels, Latin America and Canada of Sony Pictures Television.
In this market, something that is very new for Sony is local film production. “We have the Mexican adaptation of La Boda de mi Mejor Amigo and 50 First Dates, which will be released at the beginning of 2019 in cinemas in Latin America.”
He explained that they are expanding q business of a thousand hours of content per year, and the opportunities in order to monetize content in Latin America with movies specifically.
For Marín, this new demand is the outcome of the level of control that the consumer has over the product he wants to see. “The relationship between the content and the consumer is essential.”
He added that the challenge is more as a producer and not as a distributor. “It’s investing in the stories that are going to be relevant for the consumer.”
Regarding the use of data, he pointed out that as a corporation they are very involved in that. “We have many sources of information that come from applications such as Play Station Vue or Crackle,” and added that they also have devices that collect that information like a camera or television.
“The challenge is to consolidate all this information and obviously digest it and find its practical application. It’s about how you change the use of data into a predictive tool to see the future and not dissect the past.”
