RCN has been investing to become a production studio that, in addition to supplying programming to the channel, creates and produces high-level content for the international market. According to Álex Marín, director of RCN Distribution, the idea is to boost the production facilities that RCN has in Colombia and Mexico and produce 8 to 12 products a year, including their own productions and for third parties, and they are already working on short series for platforms.
He announced that there is one project in production, two in pre-production, and two in development to produce this year. In addition, they are providing production services to third parties. Masterchef for Ecuador and Chile has already been produced in their studios, and they are about to sign new contracts.
“We want to be a place where the Spanish-speaking creatives, in particular from Latin America, feel embraced, and that they welcome the RCN brand as a storyteller rather than as a screen,” said Marín.
At LA Screenings RCN presented two telenovelas in production for its screen: Leandro Díaz, in which Vallenato singer, Silvestre Dangond, debuts as an actor in the leading role; and the story of Rigoberto Urán, a young Colombian from a poor family who became one of the current greatest cyclists in the world.
“I am excited by the high level of quality of our current production. Café con Aroma de Mujer, for example, a traditional telenovela of more than 80 episodes, with high-caliber actors, traveled far beyond expectations. It had resounding success in Spain, in Argentina, and has been embraced by the audience of Brazil, where Latin American novels are not usually seen. It has been ranked in the top 10 on Netflix for four months,” said Marín.
