On April 15th, Puerto Rican film América will be featured in a special screening on the opening night of the National Association of Latino Independent Producers conference (NALIP).The Conference, under the title of The New Now: Defining the Future Together, will take place in Newport Beach, California, from April 15th to the 17th.At least a thousand participants are expected most of them producers, actors, directors, buyers and marketers of TV and film companies. Executives from Warner Bros., Sony, Disney/ABC, Turner, MTV, Telemundo, Lifetime, SiTV, PBS, Smithsonian Networks, NBC, CBS, Fox, CPB, CNN, Showtime, WME, among others, have already registered for the conference.Américas special sneak preview and Q&A session will be a valuable opportunity to open distribution doors to the Latino market; in addition to the honor of being the opening screening to the most important meeting of Latino producers and industry leaders,” said the films director Sonia Fritz.América is an independent production from Puerto Rican house Isla Films, with Fritz as co-writer and director and Frances Lausell as producer with the support of the Puerto Rico Film Commission.It is based on the novel Americas Dream by Puerto Rican author Esmeralda Santiago. Edward James Olmos and Lymari Nadal were executive producers, and Nadal (a Puerto Rican actress best known for the part in American Gangster) also starred and co-wrote the final script.
