Further reflecting their steadfast commitment to the Tri-State’s Ecuadorian community, Telemundo 47 / WNJU will once again visit Ecuador for continuous, on-the-ground coverage of Sunday’s historic Ecuadorian elections. Led by reporter Cristian Benavides, Noticiero 47 Telemundo will offer live reports as Ecuador heads to the polls.

Broadcast coverage will begin on Noticiero Telemundo 47, starting at 5pm Friday, February 17 and will continue at 5:30pm, 6pm and 11pm. Additional on-the ground coverage from Ecuador will air:

-Saturday, February 18: Noticiero 47 Telemundo at 6pm and 11pm
-Sunday, February 19: Noticiero 47 Telemundo at 5:30pm and 11pm
-Monday, February 20: Noticiero 47 Telemundo Primera Edición at 5am and 6am and on Noticiero 47 Telemundo at 5pm, 5:30pm, 6pm and 11pm.

“With the selection of a president, VP and members of the National Assembly, this is a historic election for the people of Ecuador. Telemundo 47 has every aspect of Sunday’s Ecuadorian elections covered,” said Karen Méndez, Telemundo 47, VP of News.

In April, 2016, Benavides travelled to Ecuador to offer live, on-the-ground coverage of the massive Ecuadorian earthquake. For nearly a week, Benavides met with earthquake victims, interviewed local officials and provided critical information for loved ones residing within Tri-State area. Benavides also filed updates for sister station NBC 4 New York / WNBC.

More than 350,000 Ecuadorians currently reside in the Tri-State area. Ecuadorian law permits residents residing abroad to participate in this year’s elections.
