Netflix: We will launch our second original Spanish series in 2019

Netflix will launch worldwide its second original Spanish series in 2019. The production, titled Élite (8 episodes), is currently being developed and produced and will be entirely shot in 4K.

The first season –that will start being shot in 2018— is created by two of the most relevant contemporary Spanish writers: Carlos Montero and Darío Madrona.

Élite will be produced by Zeta Audiovisual (Ahora o Nunca, Tres Metros Sobre el Cielo, Tengo Ganas de Ti).

“We are thrilled to be working with such relevant producers and writers in the Spanish industry on a different type of teenage thriller that will transcend borders and excite a global audience,” commented Erik Barmack, VP of International Original Series at Netflix.

The story unfolds in the school Las Encinas, the most exclusive one in the country, where members of the elite send their children. There, three working class kids are sent after an earthquake destroyed the public school they used to go to. The clash between those who have it all and the poor kids creates a perfect storm, which ends in a murder.

“Making a series for young people is edifying because it is a moment in life during which everything is crucial. We are really thrilled to work on a series about the wish and need to fit in a society in which everything is apparently perfect but in which everything can go bad,” explained Francisco Ramos, executive producer at Élite.
