Qué viva México de Netflix
The film ¡Que Viva México!, by Luis Estrada, which was supposed to be available in the Netflix catalog on November 16, now has a new distribution strategy, it will be released first in theaters. A new date for the launching of the streaming platform has not been announced.
“We are excited to work with maestro Luis Estrada on his new film, ¡Que Viva México! However, in recent weeks the director and producer expressed his interest in implementing a different distribution strategy than the one agreed upon. We want to honor that vision, which is why we have agreed to return the rights to the film,” said a Netflix spokesperson.
¡Que Viva México!, starring Damián Alcázar and Joaquín Cosío, in addition to Alfonso Herrera and Ana de la Reguera, is a satirical story about a family that disputes an inheritance after the death of the patriarch, but which actually reflects the history of Mexico —and Latin America—, dominated by caudillos, exploitation of its natural resources, poverty and the impacts of populism.
The move comes after the film was announced as one of the platform’s big bets for Mexican cinema during the event Que México Se Vea. Netflix spokespersons stated that, after its commercial premiere, ¡Que Viva México! Will be coming to Netflix, but they’ll share more about the new release date later.
