Netflix Inc. premiered Lady, La Vendedora de Rosas (78×60) across Latin America, except Colombia. Inspired by true events, the new series follows Lady Tabares, a humble young woman from Medellín who finds fame after starring in The Rose Seller, a film directed by Víctor Gaviria and nominated for the Palme d’Or at the 1998 Cannes Film Festival.Based on the book, La Niña que Vendía Rosas, by Édgar Domínguez, the series centers on Lady (Natalia Reyes) and her quick rise to stardom after making a splash on the worldwide film festival circuit. However, her fairy-tale life takes a sudden and scandalous turn when the 20 year-old actress, along with her boyfriend, is implicated in the murder of a taxi driver. Ultimately convicted of the crime, the real-life Lady Tabares is released from prison after serving 12 years of her 26-year sentence. The series was filmed in Manrique and Niquitao in Medellín, as well as in parts of Bogotá. Co-produced by Sony Pictures Television and RCN Television, the show is comprised of a Colombian cast led by Reyes (Cumbia Ninja) alongside Majida Issa (La Ronca de Oro), Julián Román (La Viuda Negra, Mujeres Asesinas) and Ernesto Benjumea (Escobar: El Patrón del Mal), among others. Andrea Marulanda (Metástasis, La Prepago) is the executive producer, while screenwriters include Lina Arboleda (Metástasis), Juliana Lema (Amor en Custodia) and Pedro Rozo (El Último Matrimonio Feliz).
