Mexico´s Cadenatres closes operations and gives way to Excélsior TV

Maribel Ramos-Weiner| 27 de octubre de 2015

Cadenatres from Grupo Imagen Multimedios, a company owned by Olegario Vázquez Aldir, ceased its broadcast last friday, October 23rd, leaving its space on open broadcast channel 28 to Excélsior TV, which, until now was a pay and digital TV signal. This strategy is part of the launching of the third national network, that will begin broadcasts on the first quarter of 2016. Through a press release Olegario Vázquez Aldir, general director of Grupo Empresarial Ángeles, highlighted that Cadenatres positioned itself for eight years as a preference for TV viewers, mainly young ones, “who were seeking daring and versatile content. Therefore, these parameters mark the competition between the three open TV companies in the country”.The newscasts with Yuriria Sierra and Francisco Zea are the only programs to remain part of Excélsior TV’s programming, a channel focused on newscasts. This decision will leave more than 300 employees without their jobs and also implies the company will leave the building the network occupied on Avenida Universidad in Mexico City, which will be taken by Excélsior Radio. For all those years the signal had a varied programming grid, including magazine programs, telenovelas, series, episodic series, among others, closing deals with companies such as Televen, Rede Globo and RCTV, as well as Mexican production companies like Argos Comunicación, Corazón TV and Adicta Films, among others, to generate new productions.
