Mexicanal, pay TV channel made by Mexicans for their fellow countrymen who live in the US, is celebrating this week its tenth anniversary in their headquarters in San Luis Potosí, city located in the center of the country, 260 miles away from Mexico City. Conceived by the Peruvian-American Luis Torres-Bohl, founder of Castalia Communications in Atlanta, one of the most prestigious international channel distributors, the channel draws content from more than 20 regional Mexican TV stations, both cultural and state-owned. It is packaged in San Luis Potosí and aired to the U.S. The channel is rated as unique, due to both the model used to obtain content as well as the specific niche it is aimed at: Mainly Mexicans from Aguascalientes, Guanajuato, Guerrero, Jalisco, Michoacán, Oaxaca, Veracruz, Zacatecas, states with the highest number of immigrants. In these ten years, Mexicanal has also made original productions, among which an ambitious newscast stands out. It is a live newscast that, after a few years was replaced by their own reality shows, such as Vida de Lucha, acquired by Televisa Network´s Unicable, and Son Mariachis, whose second season is currently being produced.Club Necaxa, about a soccer team, is another of the realities now being developed. Demián Torres-Bohl, Luis´ son, is responsible for these projects. HD, gain screen in Mexican territory and promote advertising as branded content from the states and brands are goals for the next few years.PRODU visited San Luis Potosí to interview their managers and get to know the facilities.
