The initiative of Univision’s new global streaming service in Spanish has already captured the attention of several great creators and producers.
“Today if you combine the content originally produced in Spanish from Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, HBO Max, and Disney+, it represents only a single digit in average. We are going to the contrary, mostly in Spanish. That is why María Dueñas, Mario Vargas Llosa, Santiago Limón, Caracol and 360 Powwow are joining us because they know that our vision is to give creative strength to the producer and creator of Spanish content,” said Pierluigi Gazzolo, president and CEO of Transformación de Univision.
With María Dueñas, the author of El Tiempo entre Costuras and La Templanza, they closed a preferential access agreement to her novels and future content and the creation of her first series, exclusively for Univision’s SVOD streaming service. “Making an original series with a team that understands the importance of creating content in Spanish for millions of Spanish-speakers around the world is a dream come true,” said Dueñas.
An agreement was reached with the writer Mario Vargas Llosa for the adaptation of his novel Travesuras de la Niña Mala. Patricio Wills of Televisa’s W Studios will serve as executive producer. “Univision’s invitation to join a community of creators in Spanish that is just being created under a wide roof is really a game-changing milestone,” said Vargas Llosa.
Santiago Limón, the creator and producer of Hasta Que la Boda Nos Separe and director and executive producer of the new version of Rebelde for Netflix, among others, will collaborate with Ben Silverman (Jane the Virgin and Ugly Betty), executive producer of Propagate, to produce the action-horror-comedy series Pinches Momias. “The most extensive streaming service on Univision offers a prestigious and focused space for content in Spanish, with a unique mission,” said Limón.
Other agreements include the Venezuelan writer Leonardo Padrón (Amar a Muerte, Rubí and Si Nos Dejan) for the production of the original series Mujer del Diablo; Caracol Televisión; 360 Powwow, and Isla Audiovisual for the historical series No Llegaron Solos.
