After the alliance between Netflix, Ventanarosa–Salma Hayek´s production Company—Stearns Castle and Lemon Studios, for the development of the series Monarca, Billy Rovzar, general director of Lemon Studios, announced that in September or October they will start shooting, with locations in Mexico City, Jalisco, and the US.

“Salma was interested in making a family drama project and covering topics from Mexico that have not been depicted on TV, such as impunity and corruption. Now, she is doing it through a family empire in the world of tequila, highlighting the topic of how much control money has and how much it controls you,” commented Rovzar.

He announced that the series will have ten episodes in a first season and will be shot with the Lemon Studios technical team in locations like Mexico City, Jalisco and part of the US. In August they will start te pre-production and in September or October, shootings.

Monarca was created by Diego Gutiérrez and is written by Fernando Rovzar, Julia Denis, Ana Sofía Clerici and Sandra García Velten. The launch of the series will be in 2019 and will star Irene Azuela and Juan Manuel Bernal.
